When Lorain gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, deposit constant debris into local gutters. Spring drops maple seed wings, while fall brings heavy acorns, leaves, and needles, with leaf drop usually peaking in mid October. Winter brings freezing nights and likely snow, which creates severe ice dams in clogged channels along the roofline. Trapped water freezes, expands, and pulls metal channels away from the roof edge. To prevent ice buildup and blocked downspouts, we recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall. Scheduled care keeps water moving before the first hard winter freeze hits Ohio.
