When Logan gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris throughout the year. Spring brings oak catkins that cling to metal gutters, while broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, and sweetgum shed heavily later on. Spiky sweetgum balls, acorns, and pine needles from eastern white pine frequently block downspouts. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof channels right before cold weather sets in. Freezing nights happen in Logan during winter, so trapped standing water can freeze solid, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to keep channels empty.
