When Leonia gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop heavy material onto nearby roof lines. Spring brings oak catkins into the drainage channels, while sweetgum balls, acorns, and broad leaves fill the system during fall. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October across Leonia, filling the channels right before winter arrives. Freezing nights happen and snow is likely, turning wet trapped debris into heavy ice packed inside the troughs. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your home. Routine clearing allows water to flow freely into every downspout before winter freezing sets in.
