Distinguishing Gutter Run Overflow from Outlet Blockages
Water issues along an exterior wall often stem from distinctly different drainage failures. Recognizing the visual pattern helps communicate the issue accurately before service:
- Outlet blockage: Water ponds directly above the downspout entry, causing localized spillage at the corner while the main horizontal gutter remains relatively stable.
- Gutter run overflow: Debris blankets the middle of the channel, causing water to spill over the front lip midway across the building regardless of downspout condition.
- Trapped standing water: Sludge or organic matter holds moisture in low spots even after rainfall stops, adding sustained weight to the roofline.
