When Lakewood gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, constantly shed organic material onto Lakewood roofs. Oak catkins fill the channels during spring, while spiky sweetgum balls, acorns, and needle clusters drop throughout the year. Broadleaf foliage drop usually peaks in mid October, creating sudden blockages right before late fall storms. Winter introduces freezing nights and likely snow, which can weigh heavily on filled channels even though ice dams are not an issue here. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to prevent heavy dirt buildup and maintain free downspout flow during every seasonal shift.
