When Lakeside gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including live oak, water oak, sweetgum, red maple, southern magnolia, loblolly pine, longleaf pine, and slash pine, constantly drop materials onto roofs. Pine needles fall into gutters all year long, while live oak leaves shed in large waves, and sweetgum balls with acorns pack tightly inside downspout openings. Spring brings thick yellow pollen that forms dense sticky paste inside channels, and summer storms wash pine needles straight into downspout bends. Freezing nights are rare here, so ice dams in gutters do not occur, but heavy rainfall is constant. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your Lakeside house.
