Debris and Drainage Conditions Affecting Gutters
Gutter channels collect whatever falls onto or washes down the roof surface. Depending on the surrounding trees, roof pitch, and seasonal weather patterns, gutters and downspout openings can experience different types of obstruction:
- Deciduous leaves, twigs, and seed pods that mat together in the troughs.
- Evergreen needles that accumulate along corners and downspout mouths.
- Roof shingle grit that settles into low sections and creates heavy silt.
- Standing water caused by decomposing organic matter that slows runoff.
