When James Island gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris into James Island gutters throughout every season. Loblolly pine, longleaf pine, and slash pine release pine needles all year long, while broadleaf live oak, water oak, sweetgum, red maple, and southern magnolia drop yellow pollen in spring, heavy foliage, sweetgum balls, and acorns. Leaf drop usually peaks in early November. Freezing nights are rare, so ice dams in gutters are not an issue here, but dense organic matter holds persistent humidity that slowly decays gutters. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep coastal rain flowing freely into each downspout and away from your foundation.
