When Ithaca gutters fill up
Weather in New York brings varied challenges throughout the year. Regional trees like red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, and sweetgum drop oak catkins in spring, followed by heavy broadleaf foliage, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls in fall. Needles from eastern white pine also settle into local gutters. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October across Ithaca. When winter comes, freezing nights and snow create real risks for ice dams inside full gutters. Trapped ice pushes gutters away from the roof edge and splits seams. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your property against seasonal buildup and ice formation.
