When Islip Terrace gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop heavy debris across Islip Terrace roofs throughout the year. Spring brings oak catkins that clump inside downspout openings, while fall fills roof valleys with broadleaf foliage from red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, and sweetgum trees. Spiky sweetgum balls, acorns, and needle drops from eastern white pine gather rapidly inside the gutter channel. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, right before freezing nights and winter snow arrive. While ice dams in gutters are not an issue here, trapped snow melt will overflow clogged channels. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep every downspout open year round.
