When Ironwood gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop heavy loads onto Ironwood roofs throughout the year. Broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, and American elm drop leaves and seed wings, while white pine and spruce shed needles into gutter channels. Leaf drop usually peaks in late September, filling roof pathways right before winter sets in. Heavy snow and freezing nights follow, making trapped water turn to severe ice dams in gutters that damage eaves. Fall debris keeps melting snow from reaching downspouts smoothly. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to clear summer grit and prepare Ironwood homes for freeze cycles.
