When Hingham gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, American beech, white birch, and northern red oak, shed a heavy carpet of fallen leaves each fall. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October. Eastern white pine and eastern hemlock drop fine needles that settle in gutter channels. Maple seed wings fall during spring, followed by late fall acorns. Snow is likely during winter and freezing nights happen frequently, turning trapped rainwater into heavy ice that sags channels and pulls fascia away from the home. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep every downspout open and operating before severe weather hits Hingham.
