Debris and Drainage Conditions That Affect Runoff
Accumulation inside gutters happens when organic matter settles along gutter troughs and around outlets. Depending on nearby trees, wind exposure, and the pitch of the roofline, gutters can collect leaves, twigs, pine needles, organic silt, or asphalt shingle grit. When these materials gather in volume, they obstruct normal drainage paths and cause standing water or spillover along the roofline.
