When Genesee gutters fill up
Trees common in the region include broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, and American elm, alongside conifers like white pine and spruce. In spring, maple seed wings drop onto the roof and gather in every gutter channel. Pine needles fall steadily throughout summer, trapping dirt inside the downspout elbows. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling the entire system with dense, heavy foliage and acorns. Freezing nights follow quickly, creating ice dams in gutters when trapped water freezes solid during cold Wisconsin winters. Snow accumulation adds severe weight to blocked channels. We recommend routine cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect against freeze damage.
