When Franklin gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop a constant stream of organic matter into every local gutter. Oak catkins fall during spring, followed by broadleaf red maple and tulip poplar foliage, hickory nuts, white oak acorns, spiky sweetgum balls, and needle drops from eastern white pine. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling channel runs right before winter arrives. Freezing nights happen and snow is likely across New Jersey, but ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. Still, trapped water easily freezes and pulls fascia boards loose. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep every downspout open and clear.
