When Fort Drum gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop heavy debris. Oak catkins fill gutters in spring, while fallen leaves, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls gather heavily before fall. In Fort Drum, leaf drop usually peaks in early October. Freezing nights happen soon after, and heavy winter snow leads to ice dams in gutters when full channels prevent drainage. Ice trapped inside full gutters pushes against the roof edge and pulling fascia loose. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep total clearance before ice form across New York winters.
