When Flint gutters fill up
Trees common in the region include sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce. In early October, leaf drop usually peaks across Flint, filling gutters with dense piles of leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and pine needles. Winter brings freezing nights, heavy snow, and cold conditions that create severe ice dams in gutters if trapped moisture cannot drain away. Ice buildup damages the roof edge and pushes under the shingles. We recommend scheduling a full gutter cleaning at least twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, to protect your property before winter freezing begins and after spring blooms drop.
