When Ferguson gutters fill up
In this part of Missouri, trees common in the region drop heavy organic material into gutters year-round. Cottonwood fluff floats into gutter troughs during spring, followed by broadleaf foliage from bur oak, green ash, silver maple, and hackberry trees. Heavy leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof gutters with damp debris before cold weather arrives. Ponderosa pine and eastern red cedar drop needles and grit, while ash seeds clog lower outlets. Freezing nights happen regularly in winter, and snow is likely. Ice dams in gutters are not an issue here, but trapped wet leaves freeze solid and weigh down gutters. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall.
