When Falls gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and pine needles that land directly on your roof edge. In broadleaf areas filled with sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, and American elm, leaf drop usually peaks in mid October. Nearby white pine and spruce drop heavy needles that pack tightly inside local troughs. Freezing nights happen throughout the winter season, making ice dams in gutters a real local danger when melted snow cannot drain down downspouts. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall. A fall cleaning removes fall leaves before freezing weather arrives, while a spring visit clears winter buildup.
