Distinguishing Outlet Clogs from Gutter Run Overflow
Water issues along an eave usually stem from one of two drainage problems. Distinguishing between them helps establish the necessary cleaning approach:
- Outlet blockage: Debris settles directly over the downspout opening, causing water to pool and spill over the immediate end of the trough while the rest of the run remains mostly empty.
- Run overflow: Heavy silt or leaf buildup along the length of the gutter impedes water movement, creating spilling points mid-channel even when the outlet is clear.
