When Dennis gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop heavy debris into roof troughs throughout the year. Spring brings oak catkins into every gutter channel, while fall drops leaves, hard acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls. Peak leaf drop usually occurs around mid October in Dennis. Winter brings freezing nights and likely snow, though ice dams in gutters are not an issue here. Wet leaves left inside channels through subfreezing temperatures can expand and distort metal paths. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to protect every residential roof and foundation in New Jersey.
