When Courtland gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop constant heavy materials into roof channels. Maple seed wings fall each spring, while acorns and pine needles accumulate through summer. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling channels right before cold weather arrives. In Courtland, freezing nights bring snow and ice dams that lock standing water inside blocked gutters, pushing moisture up toward the roof edge. To prevent ice damage, we recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, clearing away leaves and needles before winter freezes take hold.
