When Cornelius gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including sweetgum, red maple, water oak, broadleaf live oak, and southern magnolia, shed heavy material into local drainage systems. Sweetgum balls, acorns, and live oak drop directly into open channels, while loblolly pine, longleaf pine, and slash pine drop sharp needles all year long. In winter, freezing nights happen, but ice dams in gutters are not an issue and snow is rare in Cornelius, North Carolina. However, cold nights can freeze trapped standing water, expanding blocked sections and damaging seams. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, during spring and fall, to maintain proper drainage during seasonal rain events.
