When Coloma gutters fill up
Local trees common in the region, including broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy organic debris across Coloma roofs. Fall leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling upper channels with broad leaves, acorns, and seed wings, while conifers drop needles throughout the year. Freezing nights, winter snow, and ice dams in gutters create serious backup hazards when meltwater cannot drain. A blocked gutter holds cold water that turns into solid ice at the roof edge. We recommend scheduling gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to clear seasonal material before winter freezing arrives in Illinois.
