When Coal City gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop heavy broadleaf foliage, twigs, and pine needles across local roofs. Sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce trees drop materials throughout the year, with maple seed wings falling in spring and heavy acorns landing in fall. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof channels right before cold weather arrives. Freezing nights happen regularly in winter, and trapped debris leads to severe ice dams in gutters that hold weight along the roofline. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep water flowing freely before snow and ice lock debris inside the system.
