When Chelsea gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and pine needles that quickly collect on roof lines. Sugar maples, red maples, bur oaks, hickories, elms, white pines, and spruces shed foliage that lands in gutters across Chelsea. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October. Freezing nights, heavy snow, and ice dams in gutters create serious winter risks in Michigan when trapped water expands and pulls aluminum gutters away from the roof edge. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, once in the spring to sweep away pine needles and seed wings, and once in the fall after the foliage drops to protect roof edges from winter ice buildup.
