When Caribou gutters fill up
In this region, trees such as sugar maple, red maple, American beech, white birch, northern red oak, eastern white pine, and eastern hemlock are widespread. During spring, maple seed wings fill open gutter channels. In late September, leaf drop usually peaks, dumping a thick carpet of fall foliage into roof troughs across Caribou. Pine needles fall continuously throughout the year, weaving dense plugs inside narrow downspout elbow bends. Winter brings freezing nights, snow, and severe ice dams in gutters that trap melting runoff along the roof edge. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, to prevent winter ice backups.
