When Cambridge gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, including broadleaf bur oak, silver maple, cottonwood, green ash, hackberry, eastern red cedar, and ponderosa pine, drop heavy material throughout the season. Spring brings lightweight cottonwood fluff, while green ash seeds and windblown dust collect during summer. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling local gutters right before winter arrives. Freezing nights and snow create heavy ice dams in gutters when trapped water cannot drain properly. Blocked downspouts freeze solid, causing water to back up under shingles. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep water moving freely before freezing temperatures cause major ice expansion issues.
