When Calumet gutters fill up
Trees common in the region, such as broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, drop heavy organic matter. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling roof channels with broad leaves, acorns, and needle clusters. Maple seed wings fall earlier in the year. Winter brings freezing nights and snow, creating ice dams when choked gutters retain trapped water. Frozen water expands, splitting joints and pulling downspout sections away from walls. To prevent winter damage and spring overflows, we recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, keeping channels clear throughout the changing local weather.
