When Busti gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop heavy organic material into gutters throughout the year. Spring brings oak catkins that cling inside gutters, followed by spiky sweetgum balls, acorns, and broadleaf foliage from red maple, white oak, hickory, and tulip poplar. Eastern white pine needles also settle into channels. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, filling trough lines right before winter. Cold air brings freezing nights and snow, causing ice dams in gutters when trapped water freezes. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep liquid moving before winter freezes turn blocked troughs into solid ice blocks that pull away from fascia.
