When Buffalo gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop heavy foliage and debris into open channels throughout the year. In spring, white oak catkins clutter gutter bottoms, while broadleaf red maple, hickory, tulip poplar, and sweetgum shed leaves, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls late in the year. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October across Pennsylvania, filling channels just before winter arrives. Freezing nights happen regularly in Buffalo, and clogged gutters easily lead to ice dams when trapped snow melts and freezes. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall. Clearing your gutter system late in fall prevents trapped water from freezing into solid ice blocks that bend metal hangers.
