When Brookhaven gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as red maple, white oak, hickory, tulip poplar, sweetgum, and eastern white pine, drop heavy natural material onto Brookhaven roofs. Spring weather brings oak catkins that quickly clog downspouts, while fall releases thick fallen leaves, acorns, and spiky sweetgum balls. Leaf drop usually peaks in mid October, filling regional gutters right before winter. Freezing nights happen and snow is likely across New York, so packed damp leaves can freeze solid inside unchecked downspouts even though ice dams in gutters are not an issue. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to protect your entire gutter system.
