Debris and Drainage Factors
Accumulations in overhead troughs vary widely from one location to another. Open gutters can collect organic matter that slowly impedes runoff, leading to standing water or localized blockages:
- Fallen leaves, needles, twigs, and seed pods settling along channel bottoms
- Wind-blown organic silt and roof grit forming dense sediment
- Obstructions clustering directly above outlets and vertical drop lines
