When Berkley gutters fill up
Trees common in the region drop debris across Berkley homes throughout the year. Broadleaf sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, and American elm shed dense leaves, seed wings, and acorns, while local white pine and spruce toss sharp needles onto the roof. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October, clogging water flow right before winter sets in. Freezing nights cause standing water in gutters to expand into solid ice dams, pushing heavy loads against fascia boards. We recommend residential gutter cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to clear fallen matter before spring rain and cold winter freezes arrive.
