When Antioch gutters fill up
Tree species common in the region, such as sugar maple, red maple, bur oak, hickory, American elm, white pine, and spruce, shed heavily onto residential properties. Fallen leaves, maple seed wings, acorns, and pine needles accumulate rapidly inside roof channels. Leaf drop usually peaks in early October across Illinois. Freezing nights happen regularly, making ice dams in gutters a real winter problem when trapped water freezes near the roof. Snow is likely during local winters, adding weight to weighed-down channels. We recommend cleaning at least twice a year, spring and fall, to keep water moving freely before freezing temperatures arrive and after spring shedding finishes.
